The Joy of Blogging
I had a pat-myself-on-the-back moment earlier today. As you may or may not know, I teach a summer program at MSU. I have 35 high school students to whom I teach composition and literature. For their last project, I decided to have them start blogs on a topic of their choice.
The great moment of this project came today. At 10 a.m., in a computer lab full of high schoolers, there was a moment of great and total silence- save for furious typing. If you know how chatty high schoolers (in the SUMMER) tend to be, then you know how odd this was to my ears. I looked around and *they were engrossed in their blogs*! They were writing without me pushing them. They were writing without complaining. They were writing without asking unnecessary questions about if “this is good enough” or “how many words do I have to write?”
It was pure English-teacher-geek heaven!
