• Join My Husband In Making Fun Of Me…

    Today we took a fun family hike to the Grand Ledges– ancient cliffs of sandstone that are remarkable only if you’re used to flat-farm Michigan (like we are).

    I told my husband that in seventh grade the Writer’s Club at my school took a field trip to these ledges, and the writing that resulted from that trip won me a local writing contest…. STOP. BACK UP. . .Writer’s Club?

    Yup. I’ve been a writer from the beginning. My husband was tickled to poke me about the Writer’s Club, but I’ve really come to accept my nerd-dom. For example, I was heartbroken recently when we played one of those DVD-based board games and there was no “books” or “literature” category. I mean, how am I going to whip his butt with no “books” or “literature” category? Really people.

    After the hike, we both rocked out Jeopardy, where my word nerd tendencies tend to show even more. Honestly, I think he’s just threatened.

    Come on writers. I know I’m not the only one out here who is proud of the geekiness and can seriously throw Alex Trebek for a loop. Thirty years of having my nose buried in a book has to account for something, right?

    Hi Allena;
    I have long ben a fan of your freelance writing newsletter. This evening I decided to follow some of your links and was really impressed with all the other things that you are involved with. I am mainly involved with a group named the Bay of Fundy Ecosystem Partnership and do a lot of popular science writing for them. I always find your newsletter interesting and useful. Keep up the good work.
    Cheers
