Feb 2 marked the 5 year anniversary of the founding of GardenWall Publications.
I was working at Michigan State University, doing some interesting things, such as assisting the editor of the North American Journal of Environmental Health Research, and writing and editing internal marketing pieces, and helping ESL visiting professors and fellows edit their submissions, but I wasn’t happy. I was missing my children’s life. I was exhausted by the time I got home at 6- three hours after they got out of school. I couldn’t volunteer within their classrooms, as I’d grown accustomed to doing. I couldn’t write in the evenings. I couldn’t see the job as more than a pay check.
At that time, I was editing for Adelante Forward magazine, and making a fair amount of money doing it. I wondered if I could find other clients like Adelante. I scoured the internet at night, ran into Deb Ng and Freelance Writing Gigs. Learned a lot. Taught myself.
On Feb 2, 2007, I left that position at State and established this business.
Thank you to my clients, past and present, for a beautiful 5 year run!
