Comments Off on Feeling philanthropic? Ways to Combine Writing and Saving the World
I’ve suffered from the delusion that I could save the world, or at least my small part of it, on and off for years. In fact, I’m pretty sure I should have been a Peace Corps worker. But, those days are gone, and now all of a sudden I have this thing called a mortgage, not to mention two children’s mouths to feed.
However, I have begun exploring ways to combine volunteerism and my career, a few of which follow.
Provide website copy
Providing translation of non profit/agency materials
Allowing free or reduced ads from non profits into my (your) magazine
Using your vast netwrok of online contacts to raise awareness, troll for donations
Grant and proposal writing (or editing)
Press releases
Newsletter writing (editing)
Documentation/reporting documents
Prison pen pal
Case study writing
Grant research
Media outreach
Online course writing (how to find a job, how to learn to type, how tow rite your resume- other skill areas needed by the general population to imprive their QOL)
Resume critique/correction/editing
Book donation drive (orphanages, prisons)
Sample letter writer (produce templates for letter drives to Legislators/newspapers)
Screenwriting for documentaries
The best resource I’ve found thus far is VolunteerMatch, will allows you to search locally and virtually with a keyword such as Writing, Editing, PR.
Do you volunteer with your writing, or are you perhaps “all written out” by the end of a work day?
